Devon Cycle Mark

The Devon Cycle Mark confirms our commitment towards catering for the special needs of cyclists. In order for us to be able to display the Devon Cycle Mark, we are required to meet the Devon Cycle Mark criteria. Listed below are the criteria together with a description of how we meet them (in italics).

Devon Cycle Mark

Basic criteria

Easy access: Suitable width at premises to manoeuvre a loaded bike, provision of a sheltered position to unload with reasonable access to wheel the bike into a store/lock-up unladen.
There is a large stone barn adjacent to the farmhouse that can accommodate loaded bikes and allows them all to be unloaded inside the barn by everyone in the group.

Secure storage: Lockable shed, garage, outbuilding or secure point under cover (e.g. a hitching ring under a lean-to).
Bikes remain where they are unloaded and the barn is locked.

Facilities for washing and drying clothes: Provision to hang wet clothing (e.g. over trousers, jackets, panniers etc.) in a drying environment. Provision for hand washing clothing.
There is a clothes rail in the barn for drying clothing or if necessary clothing can be dried overnight on the Aga in the kitchen.

Local cycle route maps and cycling literature: Provision of local cycle route maps either free or for sale.
We have local cycle route maps that we provide for free and OS maps for reference.

Information on nearest cycle shop: Name, address and telephone number of nearest facilities displayed and, dependent on distance, the offer of a lift to get there.
This information is available for guests and transport will be provided if necessary but the extensive range of tools and equipment in the barn should make this unnecessary.

Basic puncture repair kit: Provision of a basic toolkit to include: Tyre levers, patches, glue, pump, basic tools and talc/chalk. Pump to fit all valve types (i.e. presta/shraeder).
All of this and more is available in the barn where the bikes are stored.

Optional criteria

Additional tools and spares: Dependent on the distance to the nearest cycle shop: Provision of extra tools and spares.
All of this and more is available in the barn where the bikes are stored.

Flexible meal times and departure times: Requests relating to early or later mealtimes, and early starts met by pre-arrangement.
We are completely flexible on mealtimes and departure times as long as we are made aware in advance, or kept informed if you are running late.
